Why Go

This is one of the Arb’s most charming fall traditions: dozens of imaginative scarecrows crafted by staff, local artists, and community members, set among autumn color and pumpkin displays. It’s easy, low-stress fall fun for all ages — and an absolute win for photos.

Highlights to Catch

  • Scarecrows in the Garden: Wander past playful, themed scarecrows — don’t miss Scarecrow Hill for the largest cluster.

  • Bachman’s Scarecrow Showdown: Bachman’s stores compete for your vote with their over-the-top designs. Cast a ballot for your favorite.

  • New: Scarecrows at the Farm: An expanded, family-friendly display area with tons of photo ops.

  • Pumpkin Palooza (Oct 3–31): See more than 500 varieties of pumpkins, squash, and gourds, including the Pumpkin Tree on Dahlberg Terrace and a massive display at the Oswald Visitor Center. Many are available to buy at the AppleHouse nearby.

  • Go earlier in the day or mid-week for easier parking and lighter crowds.

  • Dress in layers — mornings can be crisp, afternoons warm.

  • Wear comfy shoes for strolling the grounds and trails.

  • Plan a food stop: the on-site café and AppleHouse (1.5 miles west of the main entrance) are fall favorites.
