There has been all kinds of talk lately in the blogosphere, particularly on tech blogs, about the future of the printed page. With new ebook technology like the Amazon Kindle, Barnes & Noble's Nook, and the ever-popular, much-blogged-about Apple iPad, many fear that books will soon become obsolete.
Hold on a second there, champ.
Before we relegate our beloved books to the archives of oblivion, let's take a minute to remember that there will always be those who relish the tactile experience of holding a book while reading. Of smelling the paper and ink of a new book, or the musty richness of an old one. Let's face it. The printed book isn't going away anytime soon.
And that's great news for Tom Braun and Collette Morgan, owners of Wild Rumpus, a neighborhood bookstore in the Linden Hills area of south Minneapolis. This isn't just any bookstore though. Every Monday morning at 10:30, Franny the Magnificent sits down and reads a magical story to a captivated room full of preschool-and-younger kids (and parents). Stories such as the resurrected classic Where The Wild Things Are, Oliver Jeffers' How to Catch A Star, or If I Were A Lion by Sarah Weeks.
The owners also offer a 20% discount to you if you register your book club with them. Currently, they have a range of book clubs for ages ranging from young children to adults.
